Ante el contenido elaborado por ARD del que se han hecho eco algunos medios de comunicación, el Comité Olímpico Español (COE) desea manifestar que:

- El compromiso con un deporte limpio, transparente y libre de dopaje, y con el cuidado de la salud de los deportistas, está en la esencia de los valores definidos en la Carta Olímpica y en las propias normas del COE a las que se someten todos los deportistas y miembros del mismo.

- Desde el COE nunca se ha tolerado, ni mucho menos inducido, conducta alguna que pueda vulnerar los valores del deporte ni del olimpismo, que pueda alterar el resultado de una competición, o que ponga en riesgo la salud de los deportistas. Es más, desde el COE siempre se ha apoyado el endurecimiento de las sanciones por dopaje.

- Asimismo, los deportistas olímpicos españoles a lo largo de la historia

se han sometido siempre a las mismas normas y controles antidopaje que los demás deportistas olímpicos internacionales, de acuerdo con la regulación definida en cada momento por los organismos competentes.

- Rechazamos cualquier acusación que trate de poner en cuestión la limpieza, la integridad y la transparencia del olimpismo español y, de forma más enérgica si cabe, cuando tal acusación se basa en declaraciones de una persona cuya trayectoria en el ámbito del deporte está claramente desprestigiada.

- Los Juegos Olímpicos de Barcelona fueron un éxito organizativo, deportivo y social y son considerados, no solo en España, sino también fuera de ella, como unos de los mejores de la historia. Así, rechazamos igualmente cualquier acusación que, aprovechando el paso del tiempo, trate de extender una sombra de sospecha infundada e injusta ante la que evidentemente el COE no puede permanecer callado.

- Por último, defendemos y reivindicamos el trabajo de Cayetano Cornet como jefe de misión del equipo olímpico español en París, cuyo prestigio está más que consolidado a nivel internacional.

In light of the content produced by ARD, which has been reported in some media, the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) wishes to state that:

- The commitment to clean sport, transparent and free of doping, and to care for the health of athletes, is the essence of the values defined in the Olympic Charter and in the rules of the Spanish Olympic Committee to which all athletes and members are subject.

- The Spanish Olympic Committee has never tolerated, much less induced, any conduct whatsoever that might violate the values of sport, of the Olympic spirit or which may alter the result of a competition or put athletes’ health at risk. Moreover, the Spanish Olympic Committee has always supported harsher sanctions for doping.

- Furthermore, Spanish Olympic athletes, throughout history, have always been subject to the same anti-doping rules and controls as other international Olympic athletes, in accordance with the regulations defined by the competent authorities at all times.

- We reject any accusation that attempts to question the clean record, integrity and transparency of Spanish Olympians, and in the strongest possible terms when such accusation is based on the word of an individual whose career in the world of sport has been utterly discredited.

- The Barcelona Olympic Games were an organisational, sporting and social success and are considered, not just in Spain but also far beyond our borders, one of the greatest Games in history. We also reject any accusation whatsoever that, taking advantage of the passage of time, attempts to cast an unfounded cloud of suspicion before which the COE cannot remain silent.

- Finally, we defend and have full confidence in the work of Cayetano Cornet as Chef de Mission of the Spanish Olympic team in Paris, whose prestige is firmly established at international level.
